This vibrant compendium of fresh recipes and compelling interviews with creative people stems from her popular website of the same name. Enjoy sesame rose milk, soft eggs with avocado and spicy salsa, herb salad with pumpkin seed oil toast, and more as Sherman gives the scoop on the book in conversation with Bon Appetit editor-at-large Christine Muhlke. Morning Workshop: You Art What You Eat with Libby VanderPloeg

Tap into food memories as a vehicle for story-telling with Libby VanderPloeg, a designer and illustrator whose work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Design*Sponge and in books, most recently Jeremiah Tower's "Table Manners." (Or perhaps you know her viral GIFs of women lifting as they climb or pussy grabbing back.) VanderPloeg will lead workshop participants through creative prompts, guidelines and general instruction before setting everyone loose to create their own poster-size, visual documents. Silk-screened posters, drawing and collage materials will be provided. No experience necessary. Participants are welcome to use the poster parameters however they wish!
Morning Workshop: Beyond Fundraisers: Community organizing through food with Evelyn Kim x Food Issues Group

How can we do more than fundraiser dinners? This workshop explores how those working within food systems — e.g. chefs, farmers, retail establishments — can go beyond charity towards community organizing and meaningful participation in social justice. Food activist and writer Evelyn Kim along with members of Food Issues Group (FIG) will share their experiences in engaging in community projects and grassroots movement building. Workshop participants will discuss ideas, successes, and perhaps most importantly, solutions to the common challenges of running food businesses in ethical & sustainable ways, such as limited capacity in terms of space, time, and staff, legal constraints, and tight margins.

Celebrate the release of the first book from Stone Barns Center, Letters to a Young Farmer, an anthology of 36 essays and letters from some of the greatest farmers, writers and leaders of our time. In this conversation led by young farmers and author and journalist Amy Halloran, hear from and talk with young farmers about their role in the future of food, farmland and communities.
Afternoon Salon: On "Diversity" with Food52

Food Book Fair and Food52 co-host a roundtable discussion on how food media can rigorously and responsibly diversify its voices along racial, gender, age-based lines, and beyond.
What are publications doing to ensure another pho-gate doesn't happen? How are publications protecting people of color, women, queer, or other minority writers from dealing with harassment? How do people in positions of editorial power respond to demands that food is an apolitical space? What are strategies for providing meaningful, intentional coverage and content that reflect a broader swath of voices than mainstream media is used to — and how do allies and accomplices continue to push the boundaries of what is expected?
